Butter Keeps are a French traditional way to help prevent butter from turning rancid when not refrigerated. Merely add about 1/2" of water to the base piece, pat the butter into the lid and when you replace the top lid the water creates an air tight seal. Best when you occasionally replace the water. If you don't like to spread cold hard butter right out of the refrigerator this is the way to go!
The pieces are hand-thrown on a potters wheel with a stoneware clay body and glazed with a blue glaze that breaks to a saddle brown. The dripping white with blue glaze adds additional beauty to the glaze. Dish is 4-1/2" in diameter and 3" in overall height. Large enough to accommodate a 1/4 lb. cube of butter. Made with commercial glazes that are food and dishwasher safe.
